HM Plant Honda’s Josh Brookes set the fastest time on today’s last day of testing at Guadix, waiting until late in the afternoon to edge out championship rival Tommy Hill.

This was the last day on track for the HM Plant Honda team before they return to the UK and Brookes set the pace this afternoon after conditions improved with a best unofficial lap time of 1m:13.6s. Kiyonari had a steady start to the day and set consistent lap times, with a best lap of 1m:14.1s.

Brookes and team-mate Kiyo both agree they are now feeling more comfortable with the new Ohlins suspension and Motec ECU control systems after their time in Spain, as they return to the UK for further testing.

Brookes said: “It has been a pretty successful day for me overall. We did lose out yesterday unfortunately due to the snow in the morning but we have made some really steady progress today and I am now definitely feeling more confident about the first round at Brands Hatch. We still have a few areas that we can work on when we are back testing in the UK, like the suspension and fuelling but we are leaving here happy with the work we have done.”

Kiyonari said: “This morning the track was cold and so it was very slippery so we were very careful. I am feeling happy after our tests in Spain as we have lots of good data that we can work with before Brands Hatch. I wanted to be faster but the conditions haven’t been so good and we had a lot of settings to test and that was very important. I am now looking forward to some more tests in the UK and improving ready for Brands Hatch.”

Team Manager, Havier Beltran concluded: “Our pre-season tests at Cartegena and Guadix in Spain have gone according to plan and despite some early issues the whole team has worked hard to resolve them and we have made some good progress. All three of the boys; Josh, Kiyo and Steve (Plater) have all been able to get lots of laps in and now we can go home and evaluate what we have learnt ready for our next test in a few weeks’ time.”
