The HM Plant Honda team today completed its first day of testing in Cartagena, Spain with Josh Brookes and Ryuichi Kiyonari on track for the first time this season.

The duo have used the opening day as a shakedown test to get dialled in with the new Ohlins suspension and ECU control with the focus mainly on fuelling and engine mapping.

Brookes said: “In a nutshell it has been a pretty productive day. We have new equipment with Ohlins suspension and ECU control so we have been working on fuelling and mapping as the heart and brain of the bike has changed for this year. With this in mind both areas needed a shake-down to run them in and tune so we are ready to run. It hasn’t been a day where we focus on the same things we would on a race weekend, it has been all about the basics and it has been really productive. This morning was obviously difficult as we had to start from scratch but this afternoon was good and we started to get into a rhythm. We haven’t been going for lap times today but I know that we will be picking the pace up.”

Kiyonari said: “I am very happy to be back with the HM Plant Honda team and I have been pleased to be working again with Adrian (Gorst) and Havier (Beltran). I already have a good feeling with the bike and we have been working hard today with the new changes. It is good for me to be here and I feel like I never left the team. The lap times have not been important to us today as we have a lot of work, but we will get faster by the end of the test.”

Team Manager, Havier Beltran concluded: “It has been a successful day for the whole of the HM Plant Honda team and a positive start to our test schedule. We have utilised all the possible track time and both Kiyo and Josh have made some real developments with the fuelling and mapping during the first day. We have time on our side now to continue making steps forward and we are just hoping that the weather doesn’t deteriorate so we can get the benefit of the track time here in Spain.”
