After achieving the ultimate goal last season; finishing first and second in the championship, HM Plant Honda arrives once again on the British Superbike scene campaigning the all new CBR1000RR Fireblade with two new riders for 2008.
The team, which master-minded Ryuichi Kiyonari’s two consectutive title wins in the most competitive domestic series in the world, is out to replicate its success once again with riders Leon Haslam and Cal Crutchlow.
HM Plant Honda’s relentless effort for wins also stretches to dominance on the roads with John McGuinness and Ian Hutchinson taking victory in three of the four races at the Isle of Man TT in ‘07 and Dave Molyneux’s sidecar outfit winning both races in their class.
Haslam, who has so far been denied winning the BSB championship after being in the running for the past three seasons, is more determined than ever as he boards Honda machinery this year. The Derby-lad’s pedigree derives from his father Ron Haslam (who was also a Honda rider) which saw Leon become a national motocross champion before becoming National Scooter champion in 1997 at the age of just 14.
Crutchlow won the British Supersport championship for Honda in 2006 aboard the Northpoint Ekerold CBR600RR and after switching to Suzuki for his maiden year in the premier class, he is excited to be re-joining Honda in 2008. The 22-year-old achieved one podium at the final round at Brands Hatch last season after being so close on many occasions and is now hungry for wins as he embarks on his second Superbike season with the HM Plant Honda outfit.
